After opening its doors in 2010, Peacock’s Early Childhood Development Center, located on Madison Avenue on Bainbridge Island, now serves a diverse community of over fifty families by providing content rich early childhood education and flexible childcare options for children ages 1 – 5 years old.
Early Achievers, Washington’s voluntary quality rating and improvement system, gives participating child care professionals free access to coaching, professional development and a tangible way to demonstrate their commitment to providing quality care and education for young children.
The lengthy rating process took place over many months and culminated with an independent review conducted by the University of Washington. The comprehensive evaluation focused on adult/child interactions, the environment of the facility, curriculum and staff support, professionalism, family engagement and partnerships, in addition to child outcomes.
In recent years, scientific research on how the brain develops has provided convincing evidence that the early childhood years are a critical time for developing essential abilities that influence wide-ranging and important cognitive, physical, and socio-emotional skills. A growing number of longitudinal studies have followed individuals from early childhood through adulthood, finding that high quality child care and preschool programs encourage those early short-term gains that lead to long-term achievements in life.
“Our success is all about our collaboration with the parents and positive educational outcomes for the kids,” said Kathy Haskin, Executive Director of Peacock Family Services. The non-profit organization also provides summer camps and after-school care through their Nature Nuts programs, and family resources through their website hub, in addition to the child care services at the Center.
“Peacock values inclusiveness, health, and community,” continues Haskin. “We are proud of the recognition the Peacock Family Center has received and are committed to continuing to improve on the level of care we provide for our families.” This milestone means that the Peacock staff will have access to additional training and resources during the coming months. Having achieved a Quality Level of Excellence distinction, Peacock Family Center joins the ranks of a small number of sites who have achieved this certification.
