With a background in outdoor education, Nature Nuts is a natural fit with my skills and interests. While my job often has me sitting in front of a computer screen planning exciting curriculum for our summer camps and after school program, I still get to spend time in the field with kids. It’s wonderful to see them play and learn in our beautiful natural spaces around Bainbridge Island.
I have always been passionate about working in the outdoors and helping others. After a summer of teaching English in Mexico, I discovered my passion for teaching and working with children. This lead me to pursue a degree in education. While attending Utah State University, I worked at a local non profit that provides outdoor recreation for people with disabilities. Like Nature Nuts, this was the perfect combination of working in the outdoors while providing outdoor education. As a recent graduate, I am very excited to apply my education with my past experiences to provide a summer of adventure and exploration for everyone involved in Nature Nuts.
My name is Mikhale, and I am a recent graduate at Linfield College! I have lived on Bainbridge my whole life, and love every part of it. I also enjoy working with kids. From babysitting at 14 to counseling obese and overweight children in college, I have had numerous experiences with kids. I aspire to have their energy, excitement, and compassion in my everyday activities, and am so excited to work with kids as a Nature Nuts counselor this summer!
As a junior at BHS, I have enjoyed participating in clubs, sports, and community service opportunities throughout my high school career. When I first volunteered at Nature Nuts last summer, it was because the program does not only provide an opportunity to directly help the community, it allows individuals to influence the long-term future of our society, through the children that will soon be active community members. Nature Nuts gives children the tools to better understand the natural world around them, and I look forward to being part of that process again this summer!
